July 11, 2001 Cedar River Water & Sewer District
Present:
Eric Green King County Water District #19
Robert Smart Covington Water District
Keith Olson Cedar River Water & Sewer District
Clint Vanderkooi Sammamish Plateau Water & Sewer District
Kurt Oakland Woodinville Water District
Dan Foster WSRMP
¨ Eric opened the meeting at 9:02 am.
¨ Wayne will be moving to Coal Creek Utility District from King County Water District #90. It is questionable whether he will be a SORT representative at Coal Creek. The committee discussed tabling Waynes programs until we determine his role with SORT and who will take over for him at King County #90.
· Hazard Communication Wayne was not present so this program will be tabled indefinitely.
· Ladder Safety Eric needs more time to update the draft. He will bring it back in August or September.
· Slips, Trips and Falls Eric is not ready to discuss this program at this time.
· Robert distributed some information about a program offered by King County Department of Natural Resources. Covington contacted KCDNR and found that they will pay businesses to dispose of their hazardous waste through them. Dan will contact KCDNR to get more information.
· Fall Protection Workshop The workshop is scheduled for August 8th 8-12 at Coal Creek. This is on the same day as the SORT meeting. The committee discussed whether they should still hold a short meeting that day after the workshop. Dan will contact the members, get a consensus and discuss it with Eric.
· Respiratory Protection/PPE Workshop Several SORT members have stepped up to help with the workshop. We discussed the format and topics to be presented. Robert laid out a format that would include topics such as: 1) equipment used by function (water worker vs. sewer worker); 2) care, transportation and maintenance issues; 3) examples of how to use PPE; 4) types of respiratory protection and the recordkeeping involved with it; 5) distribution of SORT Respiratory Protection Program. The committee discussed who would present, the date of the workshop, and some possible locations. The meeting is tentatively planned for November 8, 2001. Dan will follow up with all the members to lock in who will be a presenter and find a location.
· SORT Program format changes The Pool is reformatting the Risk Management binders that contain SORT programs and organizing them based upon their topic. The Pool hopes this will make it easier for members to find programs. Dan asked the SORT committee to help organize the programs in a logical, user-friendly manner.
· Safety Matters Dan brought in a video that he produced while at Eddie Bauer. The video uses behavior safety to help bring home some important safety principles to retail store employees.
· Power and Hand Tool Safety The members liked the video content but felt that it was a little long based on the content and somewhat boring. They would eventually like to replace this video since it is fourteen years old.
¨ Members passed out information and articles.
¨ The meeting adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
¨ The next meeting will either be at Coal Creek on August 8th in the afternoon or on September 12th at Covington. Dan will contact members to confirm date and location.
